The Food and Drug Administration has issued an announcement stating that the Blue Ridge Beef Natural Mix pet food has been recalled due to Salmonella contamination.
According to a statement from the FDA, 5,700 pounds of the two pound logs of Natural Mix had been contaminated.
The affected pet food has the Universal Product Code (UPC) of 854298001054 and lot number of N26/12/31.
The contaminated pet food was distributed between January 3 and January 24, packaged and sold primarily in stores located in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, Tennessee and Rhode Island.
Pets infected with Salmonella may be lethargic, have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Some pets may also experience decreased appetite and abdominal pain.
If a pet is believed to have consumed any of the product and is experiencing symptoms of Salmonella, it is recommended that you call your veterinarian.
The FDA is recommending that anyone with the corresponding UPC and lot number return the product to the store where it was purchased, or to discard it where children, pets and wildlife wouldn't be able to access.
