A man convicted of killing his girlfriend in Niles nearly 30 years ago will be up for parole in February.

According to the Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office, Felix Brown is currently serving an 18 year to life sentence for the murder of his girlfriend Monica Brandon in February of 1995.

Brown shot her in the forehead with a gun he kept near the headboard of the bed in his Niles apartment. He was convicted of murder and having weapons under disability in October of 1995.

While Brown claimed he had accidentally shot Brandon during an argument, prosecutors said he shot her on purpose because he was angry she was dating other men.

Additionally, Brown had admitted to lying to 911 dispatchers when he told them that robbers had killed Brandon.

Trumbull County Prosecutor Dennis Watkins voiced his opposition to Brown being released on parole stating this was not his first run in with the law and saying he suffers from "revolving door syndrome."

Watkins said he had been been to prison multiple times before including a breaking and entering conviction in 1981, a receiving stolen property and forgery conviction in 1983 and a drug conviction in 1994.

"This man, now at age 66, would surely be a danger to the community. And at the same tine, we know he doesn't mind going back to prison, which only increases the risk," Watkins said.

According to a press release from the Prosecutor's Office, members of Brandon's family have opposed Brown's release and the latest report from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections lists his current risk score as "moderate."

This will be Brown's fifth parole hearing since 2013.
