14,000 AMP Ohio electric service users in Niles, Howland, and Weathersfield should expect a visit by a third-party company to check out their electric meters in the near future.

Niles Mayor Steve Mientkiewcz told 21 News that the city has contracted with Professional Meters Inc. (PMI), based in Illinois, to survey all electric meters as a first step in the plan.

PMI will visit all locations, including residential, industrial, and commercial sites, before the end of March to inspect and gather information for a possible electrical meter upgrade.

The company will then submit its findings to the city regarding the type of meter, age, and any additional information needed, who will then request a proposal to get bids for the project to present to city council members.

AMP Ohio, which provides electric services for those communities, is collaborating with the city on the proposed upgrading of the meters.

The inspection began in January and should be completed by March 31.
