Pennsylvania Senator Michele Brooks and Pennsylvania Representative Parke Wentling recently announced the approval of two state grants from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) Greensways, Trails and Recreation Program. 

The grant is totaling more than $260,000 and will support projects in Mercer County. 

"I always appreciate working with local municipalities to access funding that provides the ability to expand recreational opportunities for local families and visitors alike," said Brooks.

She continues, "this project continues to build on the growth of downtown Sharon and capitalizes on its waterfront appeal."

Sharon City's Riverfront Park Walkway Project will receive a $166,970 grant to transform the former Huntington Bank building site into a vibrant open park space. 

It will also feature pedestrian-friendly trails, walkways and bench seating along the Shenango River, with new energy-efficient lighting to improve safety and accessibility.

This project will improve public access to the riverfront, providing a beautiful and functional outdoor space for the community. The project is set to begin in the coming months, with completion scheduled for later this year. 

Additionally, the City of Hermitage will receive $95,000 to install lighting at the Hermitage Athletic Complex. 

The outdoor facility, which includes two softball fields, will benefit from the additional lights, expanding the complex's ability to host evening events and activities. 

"This is fantastic news for the Shenango Valley," said Wentling. "Both projects will be beneficial for everyone and help continue to make the district one of the best places to live, work and raise a family."
