Youngstown Foundation approves $983,000 in grants including $200,000 for downtown YMCA
The Youngstown Foundation has announced over $983,000 in grants to several Valley organizations including $200,000 for improvements to the downtown Youngstown YMCA.
According to the press release, the Foundation announced $938,250 in grants for 19 different organizations.
The largest of these grants is $200,000 for the downtown Youngstown YMCA to support free memberships for local youth, as well as kitchen improvements.
According to the release, $120,000 will go towards annual memberships for students of the Youngstown City School District (YCSD), and the rest will support the kitchen improvements.
Those improvements include the expansion and modernization of the kitchen in order to prepare and serve meals to youth in organization's programs, as well as salary support for a new youth program director to oversee childcare and other youth services.
In addition to the YMCA grant, the following other grants have been approved:
- $100,000 for the City of Youngstown to support additional events and new signage as part of revitalization efforts
- $100,000 for Flying High to support the expansion of its north side training center
- $100,000 for the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation to support the expansion of its Early Learning Center, Akiva Academy, food service operations and the adult daycare program
- $75,000 for Adaptive Sports Ohio for programs for children with disabilities
- $50,000 for the Mahoning Valley Community Action Program for economic opportunities education
- $50,000 for Leadership Mahoning Valley for operating support
- $50,000 for the Regional Chamber Foundation for leadership training
- $40,000 for YCSD for positive behavior intervention and support
- $30,000 for Ballet Western Reserve for the Nutcracker performance
- $30,000 for Stambaugh Auditorium for operating support
- $25,000 for the Kelly Pavlik Organization for youth services for children with disabilities
- $25,000 for the Kent State University Foundation for LGBTQ+ community needs
- $20,000 for Antonine Sisters Adult Day for senior programs
- $20,000 for Youngstown Links for infant mortality efforts
- $15,000 for Bess Purpose for operating support
- $15,000 to Millcreek Children's Center for scholarships
- $8,250 for the National Inventors Hall of Fame for Camp Intervention for children with disabilities
