The state fire marshal is looking for the cause of a fire that Warren Fire Chief Ken Nussle estimates caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage to a three-story apartment building and a neighboring structure.

Fire crews were called to the apartment on the 1100 Block of Robert Avenue NW shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday to find it engulfed in flames, which spread to a building behind the apartment.

Flames were so widespread, that second and third alarms were sounded to get more firefighters on the scene.

Firefighters from the Warren and Howland Fire Departments battled the blaze which investigators believe erupted from between walls on the second and third floors.

Warren Assistant Fire Chief William Monrean told 21 News the fire started on the third floor of one of the apartments and spread to another building. Eggleston says everyone inside was able to get out safely.

The Red Cross is providing shelter, clothing, and other needs to those displaced by the fire.
