The Sokolov Honors College of YSU presented United Way of Youngstown and Mahoning Valley with a $10,000 check they were able to supplement with the hard work of students through fundraising.

Fundraising was done in connection with the Intro to Honors course and projects spearheaded by the Honors Trustees student organization on campus.

First-year honors students hosted events to help fund this check including bake sales, basket raffles, the making of jewelry and partnering up with restaurants in the Youngstown area.

Honors trustees added to the fundraising by hosting events like the YSU driveway fundraiser in which students could paint Pete the Penguin or the YSU "Y" on driveways within a 30-mile radius from campus.

The president of the United Way of Youngstown and Mahoning Valley Bob Hannon said that he and the organization were "honored they chose us for the fundraising project."

"United Way's motto is to Give, Advocate, Volunteer - YSU honors students exemplify this and are critical to the impact we are making in the Mahoning Valley," said Hannon.
