Siberian cold is here through Wednesday; a little Tuesday snow
Winter will reach a crescendo over the next few days as air from the Arctic Circle settles over eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Tuesday will get underway with readings below zero in many locations, and afternoon temperatures will only be around 10 above. Meanwhile, a weak weather disturbance is expected to spread clouds into the region by midday, and there should be a scattering of snow showers on Tuesday afternoon. Fresh coatings to an inch or so will be a possibility.
The sky will clear once again Tuesday night, and a fresh injection of arctic air will lead to temperatures dropping into record territory overnight. Wednesday's record low is -9, set in 2022. The temperatures have not hit -12 or lower at the Youngstown-Warren airport in nearly 10 years.
After a frigid Wednesday afternoon, the rest of the forecast is not as harsh. Temperatures may reach the freezing mark before the weekend is through.
