Republicans hosting and attending watch parties for presidential inauguration
More than 100 people are expected to pack into the Brandy Springs Community Center in Mercer County to witness the historic presidential inauguration of Donald Trump.
“We can't go to Washington D.C. it's too cold … so we wanted to get together so we could all enjoy it together,” Ginny Steese Richardson, the Chair of the Mercer County Republican Committee said.
While some will watch locally, others made the trek down to Washington, D.C. Dave Johnson the Republican State Central Committee man for the 33rd District and Allison Zwicker the Republican State Central Committee woman for the 33rd district will be watching at a party in the nation's capital with nearly 1,300 other Ohioans.
“I've never seen such enthusiasm and excitement,” Johnson said about being in D.C.
As Trump takes the oath of office, eyes will also be on several Ohioans with JD Vance as Vice President and Vivek Ramaswamy joining the advisory board aimed at identifying cuts to the federal government.
“This is a great year for Ohio. We're so proud of the work that we've done to get these people elected and we’re looking forward to everything that they're going to do,” Zwicker said.
And as Vance moves onto the White House other major government moves are happening in Ohio as Republicans fill his senate seat with Jon Husted.
“People feel that he's going to be a real asset to the state of Ohio,” Johnson said.
“I think he's going to do a great job. He'll be very conservative also I mean he's just going to be good for our party,” Zwicker said.
And after the swearing in, Republicans have their eyes set on the next four years with expectations for major shifts in America.
“We’re looking on day one to have these borders shut down and to have the illegal immigration that is pouring millions of illegals and drugs … that's going to come to a screeching halt,” Johnson said.
“Get the board closed and get the economy back to where we can all enjoy living and enjoy buying gas to go places,” Steese Richardson said. “We think we'll have a fantastic four years.”
The Mercer County GOP will be tuning into all of the events from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Brandy Brandy Springs Community Center in Mercer on Monday.
Trump will be sworn in as the 47th president at Noon EST.
