Snow around this weekend and then the attention turns to the cold
Friday will feature a good deal of afternoon sunshine with high temperatures slightly above freezing.
A rain and snow mix will fall before sunrise on Saturday followed by a quick burst of snow and then a transition back to a mix before the morning is through. An additional slushy inch of snow will be possible, mainly on non-paved surfaces. The afternoon hours will continue to feature elevated chances for a rain and snow mix with high temperatures in the upper 30s.
A bitter cold will arrive for the first half of next week.
MLK Day will feature morning temperatures close to zero degrees and afternoon temperatures staying in the single digits; wind chills values will range from -15 to -10 all day.
Tuesday will feature an ineffective, mostly sunny sky. Temperatures will range from -6 degrees in the morning to 6 degrees in the afternoon, but wind chills will be as cold as -20 degrees in the morning and as cold as -10 degrees in the afternoon.
Wednesday remains dangerously cold with air temperatures falling to as cold as -8 in the morning and afternoon high temperatures as warm as the low teens. However, wind chills will remain as cold as -25 in the morning and -5 in the afternoon.
Thursday will feature some relief from the dangerous cold but high temperatures will remain below freezing.
