POLICE: WRTA employee attacked following fight involving Youngstown students
Youngstown Police are investigating after they say a WRTA employee was attacked in the midst of a fight involving several Youngstown students at a bus station.
According to the report, the incident happened just after 4 p.m. Wednesday at the WRTA bus station on West Federal Street in downtown Youngstown. Police say the employee pepper sprayed the suspect who allegedly attacked her before police got to the scene.
The employee told police she was attacked by a suspect as she was trying to clear an unruly crowd consisting primarily of Youngstown City School District (YCSD) students.
Police say a suspect believed to be about 19 or 20 years old was acting disrespectful towards the employee continuously refusing to leave while using profanity and asking the employee what she was going to do if he didn't leave.
Police say the suspect eventually disappeared into the crowd.
Police were not able to find or identify the suspect, but officers were able to print pictures of him through WRTA's surveillance camera system.
No arrests have been made at this time, but the woman told police she wanted the suspect banned from the property.
WRTA has provided busing for high school students within YCSD since the beginning of the 2024-25 school year when the district ended busing for high school students due to ongoing bus driver and crew shortages.
