Hubbard man faces sentencing for fatal drunk driving crash
A Hubbard man will face a mandatory prison sentence when he is sentenced Thursday on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and two counts of OVI stemming from a fatal car crash in May.
Dylan C. Vrancich, 26, of Bell Avenue, admitted to causing the single-car crash on Colonial Drive in Liberty Township that killed his passenger, 41-year-old Nicholas Thompson of Youngstown.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Vrancich was driving a 2009 Pontiac G6 at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle, struck a utility pole, and caught fire. Thompson died at the scene.
A blood-alcohol test revealed that Vrancich’s blood alcohol content was 0.21, significantly above the legal limit of 0.08.
Vrancich, who faces a mandatory prison sentence of two to 12 years and a potential lifetime driver’s license suspension, has been in the county jail since his December 12 guilty plea when Judge Ronald J. Rice revoked his bond.
