This was Gary Melik of Weathersfield Township with his sons, Jeff, 5, and Brian, 3, in January of 1988, as Browns fans anticipated an AFC championship match-up in Denver on Jan. 17 between Cleveland's Bernie Kosar and the Broncos' John Elway.

2000: Following an accident in which a nine-year-old boy was injured, Youngstown police officers are riding shotgun on school buses to catch drivers that disregard Ohio law at bus stops.
Columbiana County has named a full-time evidence clerk to work with the county prosecutor's office to determine what evidence stored since 1959 must be kept and what can be disposed of.
About 300 guns, mostly rifles, remain unclaimed. The Common Pleas Court must ultimately approve the disposal of any of the items.

1985: Tom Bresko, Mill Creek Park recreation director, warns residents that ice on the park's lakes is still too thin for skating. He takes daily readings of the ice's thickness and will open the lakes to skating as soon as it is safe.
The Farrelll Area School District dropped out of the Keystone Football League and returned to WPIAL District 7 in the 1986 season. The Salem Board of Education decided not to pursue constructing and maintaining a public indoor swimming pool and shifted the project's future to the YWCA.
1975: The Youngstown Education Association will remain the bargaining agent for Youngstown's 1,166 public school teachers after winning a hotly contested election with the Youngstown Federation of Teachers.
