Driver charged in connection with multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 in Mercer County
A driver involved in the multi-vehicle crash on Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 80 in Mercer County has been charged according to a crash report from Pennsylvania State Police (PSP).
Rene Uwimana, 44, of Kalamazoo, Michigan was the driver of a Freightliner Cascadia. He was charged with the primary violation of driving at a safe speed, suggesting that he was speeding.
Two occupants of a Honda CRV involved in the crash are believed to have sustained minor injuries. They were not taken to the hospital.
Normal speed limits have since been restored and traffic is moving again after the multi-vehicle crash shut down eastbound traffic.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that wreckage that blocked eastbound traffic for several hours had been removed after 10 p.m.
The crash is still under investigation by PSP.
In addition, a 45-mile-per-hour speed limit imposed due to hazardous road conditions was lifted early Wednesday.
Speed limits are also stated to have been restored on Interstates 79, 86 and 90.
