It's been weeks since the sale of the Southern Park Mall became final and township trustees say they have not heard from the new owners.

Kohan Retail Investment Group bought the mall for $24.1 million on Dec. 23. The group created the LLC known as Southern Park Mall Realty Holdings LLC to officially make the purchase.

Township Trustees Board Chairman, Larry Moliterno, says they’ve reached out to the group to try and work together but they haven't heard back.

Moliterno says the mall is an important asset to the township and county and want it to continue that way.

“This building was started by the DeBartolo family who lived right here in Boardman and we would hope that the new owners would appreciate and value this local community and what we can do to support them and that they're going to want to be good neighbors,” Moliterno said.

21 News reached out to the Kohan group but did not hear back.

Back in November, 21 News reported on Kohan's troubled financial history, with the company falling behind on property taxes and other bills. This has led to uncertainty about the future of the mall.

The Southern Park Mall is now the fourth property the Kohan group owns in Ohio.
