YSU to receive part of $7.5 million in grant funding to go towards campus safety efforts
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced on Monday that 28 Ohio colleges and universities will receive a total of $7.5 million in grant funding to go towards security and safety on campuses.
Youngstown State University will be awarded $92,930 of the grant money which will go into making a safer campus.
"Ohio remains committed to ensuring our colleges and universities have the resources they need to make their campuses as safe as possible," said Governor DeWine.
The grant awards are a part of the FY2025-26 Campus Safety Grant Program which was funded with support from the Ohio legislature in House Bill 2 of the 135th General Assembly. The grant applications were reviewed by the Ohio School Safety Center.
Ever since the creation of the Campus Safety Program approximately $17.5 million has been awarded towards improving security and safety on Ohio campuses.
The funding will cover the cost of many improvements and enhancements to physical security on campuses such as security cameras, fencing, lighting, door locks, portable surveillance trailers, radios, drones and more.
Colleges performed a security and vulnerability assessment to see any areas in that field that needed improvement and to evaluate their eligibility for grant funding.
