The Salem Police Department is investigating the death of an approximately 5-month-child that occurred Sunday. 

Salem Police Chief J.T. Panezott told 21 News that officers were called to the 300 block of West Pershing in city around 1:02 pm.

The chief told 21 News officers are investigating what the department is calling a suspicious death. The chief also said no one is in custody, which is an active investigation.

According to the police report, officers were called for an unresponsive child along with the Salem Fire Department. The infant was transported to the hospital and the scene was cleared by 5:53 p.m.
