YSU men's basketball falls to Cleveland State, 80-72
The Youngstown State men's basketball team hosted Cleveland State on Saturday afternoon in a battle for first place in the Horizon League.
The Penguins came into the game with a 6-1 conference record and winning nine of their last 10. The Vikings came in with a 5-1 conference record and riding a seven game win streak.
YSU jumped out to an 11-2 lead to start the game. The Vikings battled back and went into halftime with a 37-31 lead over the Penguins.
In the second half, Cleveland State went on a run and led by 16 points with less than 10 minutes to play. The Penguins fought all the way back and made it a one point game with under four minutes remaining.
Despite the late game comeback Youngstown State came up short and the Vikings never gave up the lead as they won their eight straight game 80-72 the final.
With the win Cleveland State sits atop of the Horizon League with a 6-1 record.
The Penguins fell to second place at 6-2 and 11-7 overall.
The men will have a few days off before they travel to play at Milwaukee on January 17th.
