Newton Falls restaurant temporarily closed due to co-owners medical issues
Guns ‘n Hoses on West Broad Street in Newton Falls has been closed for a week after co-owner Donny Placer was rushed to the hospital during the middle of the work day.
“Donny went out on a delivery and he came back and said I'm just not feeling well and within 40 minutes he didn't know who I was,” Ashley Placer, the restaurant's co-owner and Donny’s wife said.
Doctors originally found a kidney stone to be the problem but Donny's condition quickly got worse when they found out he's suffering from sepsis - a life threatening blood condition.
Because the Placers run a small family business with few employees they had to shut their doors. But while Donny focuses on recovering at home - the bill keeps piling up.
“Right now we just need prayers, strength, donations if you can,” Ashley said.
Ashley says there's still a long road ahead for Donny that includes finding the right antibiotics to fight the sepsis - but in the back of their minds worries still linger about the restaurant.
“This is our family dream,” she said. “We’re in our third year of business and losing this would be like losing everything for us.”
The placer's goal right now is to raise $5,000 to cover Donny’s medical bills and bills for the restaurant. Over the past week, they've reached nearly half of that thanks to the community.
“The one thing about Newton Falls is when the community needs support they come together, all differences set aside and everybody backs each other up here,” Ashley said.
Donations can be made to the Placer's GoFundMe here or in-person at the Bensons BS & Collectables business at 31 W Broad Street in Newton Falls.
Ashley says Guns ‘n Hoses will remain closed for the foreseeable future while Donny recovers.
