Several poll workers in Mercer County may still have not seen their paychecks for working the polls during the 2024 Presidential Election even 10 weeks later. 21 News caught up with Mercer County Controller Stephen Sherman to find out why some poll workers still haven't received their payments.

Sherman told 21 News the reason for the delay is that the November election was "significantly larger" than those in years past and that there were much more poll workers than usual this time around.

While Sherman did not know exactly how much more poll workers than usual there were, he told us the Controller's Office had processed just under 600 payments to those working the polls.

Sherman added that due to the office's outdated financial system, the controller could only enter payment for one poll worker at a time.

The office is working to rectify this issue with a prepaid card system, but says whether or not this is implemented is out of the office's control.

While the controller did propose the updated system and commissioners authorized its use, it's ultimately up to the Board of Elections to get this system implemented.

In the meantime, all payments have been processed and only need to be received. Sherman says poll workers who haven't seen their paychecks yet should be seeing them "any day now."
