More than 1,100 homes and businesses were in the dark Friday after a traffic accident that shut down a road in Mahoning County.

A car sheared a utility pole just before 5:30 a.m. on South Pricetown Road just south of Ellsworth Road.

The pole brought down wires and a transformer, closing South Pricetown Road between Ellsworth and Shilling Roads for several hours.

A rescue squad was dispatched to remove a victim trapped in the wreckage. State Troopers tell 21 News no one was seriously injured.

According to FirstEnergy, as of 6:30 a.m., there were 1,126 outages in Berlin, Ellsworth, Milton, Smith, and Jackson Townships. By 9 a.m. the number of outages had dwindled to just over 20 in Berlin and Milton Townships.
