2025 is welcoming two new art installations at the Medici Museum of Art in Warren.

The first exhibit showcases illusion paintings from a local artist, while the other takes you into the Sci-Fi world, with several pieces of work showcased in countless classic movies.

"To create these vast props that are just enormous and the detail is just completely insane," said Alex Jesko, Curator at Medici Museum of Art.

Jesko, along with the staff at the Medici Museum of Art are busy at work preparing to unveil Sci-Fi + Hollywood: The Art of John Zabrucky later this month.

"This is a project that's spanned almost 50 years of his life," Jesko said. "He's dedicated his whole life to this."

The exhibit features a collection of Zabrucky's iconic artwork, including original sketches, concept art, and props from some of the most beloved Sci-Fi and fantasy films and television series. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to explore the "behind the scenes" craftsmanship of their favorite movies and shows, gaining insight into the artistry and imagination that bring these fantastical worlds to life.

Jesko told 21 News the craftsmanship behind the Zabrucky exhibition goes even beyond movie props. With art being featured in movies like Bladerunner, Star Trek, Rocky, Incredible Hulk, Batman, Total Recall, and Men in Black.

"That's just the tip of the iceberg," he said. "The list is enormous. It's really encouraging and motivating as well. The amount of detail in his works and the material that he chose to construct these props with is fascinating."

"The Medici Museum's contemporary art setting provides a perfect backdrop for this exhibit. The fusion of modern artistic expression with the imaginative world of science fiction allows visitors to experience these iconic props and settings in a new and exciting way," said Katelyn Amendolara-Russo, Director of the Medici.

"We are incredibly excited to launch our first exhibit with John Zabrucky's donation and the catalyst for the new museum," said Meghan Reed, Executive Director of the Trumbull County Historical Society and the Museum of Science Fiction and Fantasy Arts. "His contributions to the genre are unparalleled, and we are honored to present his art to the public in Warren, his hometown, and the Medici Museum of Art."

Jesko is also working to unveil "Alex Garant: Mirages." Garant's unique style, characterized by hypnotic, multi-eyed portraits, challenges viewers to explore the boundaries of perception and reality. Her intricate and captivating pieces promise to offer an unforgettable visual experience at the museum.

"It's going to drive a lot of traffic," Jesko said. "People look at these and they don't understand the complexities involved with achieving this style of art. This is a chance for them to get up close to these paintings to really study her techniques."

Jesko's working alongside the rest of the Medici staff to prepare to open it's doors to the public later this month.

The opening reception for the exhibits is on Friday, January 24 from 5-8 p.m. and is free to attend.

'Sci-Fi + Hollywood: The Art of John Zabrucky' will be open to the public from January 24 until June 28.

'Alex Garant: Mirages' will be open to the public from January 24 until April 5.
