Brutally cold Friday, with snow to follow
After a cold start to Thursday, Friday won't be any better.
Thursday will feature a good deal of afternoon sunshine but will remain frigid. High temperatures will return to the low 20s, and wind chills will barely reach the low teens.
Friday morning will be even colder. With clouds parting overnight and a calm wind, air temperatures could reach closer to zero degrees in some locations, and wind chills will fall below zero for some time as you head out the door.
Snow won't stay away for too long. Our next round of accumulating snow comes late Friday into Saturday. A widespread swath of 2 to 3 inches looks likely across the area through Saturday morning. Steady snow will taper early Saturday morning, with lake-effect snow picking up through the afternoon, and an additional inch of new snow accumulation is possible.
After a break in the action on Sunday, more snow will likely return Monday afternoon into Monday night, with flurries lingering through the middle of the week.
There are no signs of temperatures rising above freezing next week, but our stretch of below-freezing temperatures could end sometime next weekend.
