After being denied permission to travel to Hawaii for a honeymoon, a judge is allowing the former owner of an Austintown rehab center who was convicted of fraud to travel somewhere else.

According to court records, a federal judge has granted Ryan Sheridan permission to travel to Lewis Center, Ohio, which is in the Columbus Metropoliton Area, to participate in marathons in January and February.

Sheridan is the former owner and operator of Braking Point Recovery Center in Austintown and Columbus. In 2021, he was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison for crimes connected to a health care fraud conspiracy.

In the scheme, Medicaid was billed $48 million for drug and alcohol-related services, much of which were not actually provided, not medically necessary, lacked proper documentation or had other issues making them ineligible for reimbursement.

Sheridan has since been released from prison, but remains under government supervision and must request permission from the court to travel anywhere outside of Northern Ohio.

He had previously been denied permission to take a honeymoon trip to Hawaii due to the amount of restitution money he still owed.
