Another Sparkle Market location in the Mahoning Valley is set to close its doors soon.

Information is limited at this time, but owner Vince Furrie confirmed with 21 News that Sparkle Market's Niles location on North Main Street will permanently be closing its doors effective Thursday, January 16.

Furrie, who also owns the location on Western Reserve Road in Boardman, tells 21 News that the closure is due to not having the necessary funds to remodel the store blaming road construction work hurting business at the Boardman store.

"We've [partially] remodeled [the Niles location] intensely, but due to the damage caused by road construction at the Western Reserve location, there is no money left to do the needed remodel at the Niles location," Furrie said.

The news has left employees, frequent shoppers and city officials surprised and looking for other alternatives.

"I've been shopping here since I moved to Niles 46 years ago or longer.", said David Bennett, who lives on Robbins Avenue, within walking distance of the North Main Street store.

"I feel for everyone of those employees, who just most recently learned that their employment is going to be ending next week.", said Niles Mayor Steven Mientkiewcz.

Mientkiewcz has been part of the city's chess like approach to tearing down vacant buildings and tending to other structures. However this is a move he didn't see coming.

"Having a staple in the downtown area shutter and shutter with no notice to the employees or the public officials--it's tough especially with everything we're trying to do with downtown Niles.", the mayor added.

This comes just months after another Sparkle Market in Craig Beach closed its doors back in October of 2024.

Following this closure, the closest Sparkle Market stores for Niles customers would be the location in Brookfield Township and the Cornersburg location on South Meridian Road in Youngstown.

Google Maps indicates that both locations are about 20 minutes away from the Niles store by car.
