Retrial of suspect in disappearance of Mahoning County teen delayed once again
Another delay has happened for the possible retrial of a man accused in the cold case murder of a Mahoning County teen.
Mahoning County Prosecutor Lynn Maro is asked Judge Maureen Sweeney to allow the appointment of a special prosecutor to handle the murder trial of Robert Moore.
Maro's motion filed on Tuesday also seeks a delay in Moore's trial which was scheduled to begin on Monday, January 13.
According to court records, that motion was granted and Monday's trial has been continued. There is no rescheduled trial date at this time, but court records show a motion for bond reduction for Moore has been scheduled for February 6.
Moore, 54, is accused of killing Glenna Jean White of Smith Township after she went missing in 2009. White's body was never found, but prosecutors point to evidence that she was at Moore's house with the two leaving together just before her disappearance.
Moore's trial has faced several delays and multiple mistrials for various reasons.
The first mistrial happened when a jury found Moore not guilty of aggravated murder, but could not reach a verdict on the charge of murder alone. A second mistrial was declared due to a family emergency involving an attorney and a third was declared due to juror misconduct.
A trial scheduled for this past October was also postponed.
21 News has reached out to Prosecutor Maro to find out why she is seeking a special prosecutor in this case. We will update this story with more information as it becomes available.
