Guardians announcers Matt Underwood and Jim Rosenhaus stopped by Mt. Carmel in Youngstown Tuesday.

The public was able to spend time with the pair at a dinner, followed by a comments and Q & A session.

Underwood serves as the Guardians television play-by-play announcer, while Rosenhaus is a radio broadcaster for the Guardians.

The Guardians are coming off a trip to the American League Championship Series in October where they lost to the New York Yankees, 4-1.

Since then, first baseman Josh Naylor was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks and Gold Glove second baseman Andres Gimenez was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays.

21 sports asked Underwood and Rosenhaus for their thoughts on why the team traded away Naylor and Gimenez.

"It's the way they have to do it because of where we are," said Rosenhaus. "I know it's hard for fans to hear it's a small market and things like that, that's the way they have to do it."

Rosenhaus continued, "If they're going to move a player they try to do it at a time where they're going to get enough back and still keep the team going."

The Guardians got right-handed pitcher Slade Cecconi in exchange for Naylor. They also acquired pitcher Luis Ortiz in a trade with the Pirates.

"I think you have to give this front office some benefit of the doubt," said Underwood. "They've made so many good moves over the course of their tenure. They're always looking to make this team better and the way they've made this team better historically is pitching."

The Guardians open spring training February 22. They'll play their Cactus League opener against the Cincinnati Reds at Goodyear Ballpark.
