Austintown man accused of dragging ex-girlfriend's body in stairwell, not reporting death indicted
An Austintown man who police say failed to report his ex-girlfriend's death and dragged her corpse in an apartment stairwell has been indicted.
According to the indictment, 44-year-old Jamey Neeld was indicted on one count each of abuse of a corpse, a second degree misdemeanor and failure to report knowledge of a death, a fourth degree misdemeanor.
The charges stem from an incident back in July of 2024 when police were called to an apartment on the 800 Block of North Meridian Road for a body found in the stairwell.
A witness told police he saw Neeld dragging the body of 69-year-old Suzanne Wilmer by her feet into the stairwell. Police say the two dated on and off.
Later, police were called back to the apartment for a shoe found in the stairwell that is believed to have belonged to Wilmer. Police believe that shoe to have been placed in the stairwell after their first visit to the scene.
Neeld was arrested in October. According to court records, the case has been ordered to remain in Mahoning County Court No. 4 in Austintown.
There is no word on when Neeld is due back in court at this time.
