Police: Woman walks away after shearing fire hydrant in Boardman
Police have charged a 42-year-old Boardman woman who officers say ran away after her car sheared off a fire hydrant early New Year’s morning.
Erin Rose Johngrass, who according to court records also goes by the last name Hallas, was booked into the county jail on charges of driving under the influence and obstructing official business.
According to a police report, officers believe Johngrass was driving the car that veered off Southern Boulevard at around 1 a.m. Wednesday, knocking fire hydrant into the middle of the street.
A firefighter on the scene reported seeing a woman walking, then running, from the scene, before getting into an ambulance at the nearby Akron Children’s Hospital.
Police say the woman’s eyes appeared glassy and they could detect the odor of alcohol.
Officers arrested Johngrass after she admitted to drinking two hard seltzers and refusing a field sobriety test.
