According to a Facebook post from Canfield Township Trustee Joe Paloski in the "Everything Canfield" Facebook group, the Cardinal Joint Fire District (CJFD) is accepting applications to find an at-large resident representative.

The at-large resident representative would join the CJFD Board for a one-year appointment, according to the post.

The Board meets on the fourth Monday of every month at Fire Station 2 on Herbert Road at 5:30 p.m., according to the post. There is a noted compensation of $30 per regular meeting according to both Paloski and Cardinal Joint Fire District Chief Hutchison.

Hutchison states that the selected representative would attend the monthly meetings and help guide the Fire District.

According to Paloski, the Board purchases equipment, gear and vehicles, negotiates union contracts, dispatch agreements and health insurance, hires and releases personnel, approves budgeting and spending and votes to put levies in the ballot.

Paloski states that applicants may be any resident over the age of 18 who lives in either Canfield Township or the city and who ideally has experiencing in budgeting, overseeing and/or fire and ambulance operations.

Interested applicants may send a resumé and letter of interest to Chief Don Hutchison at his email or by dropping the documents off at 7075 Herbert Road, Canfield.

The Board is comprised of one township trustee, one township appointed representative, one city council member and one city appointed representative. These four individuals then select the fifth at-large resident representative.

Applicants will be voted on by the four CJFD members at their January 27 meeting. Applications are due by January 20, 2025.
