Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers urging New Years Eve celebrators to drive sober
We all want to have fun during New Year's Eve; the fireworks, the friends, and the parties are all fun, but the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) is urging folks to drive sober.
The New Year's holiday reporting period runs from December 31 to January 1, according to the OSHP.
"If you're going out to celebrate, please plan ahead to ride with a sober driver," said Ohio Governor Mike DeWine.
During the 2023-2024 four-day reporting period, the OSHP reported six fatal crashes, killing seven people. Of these crashes, three of them involved alcohol and led to four fatalities.
Troopers also made 280 impaired-driving arrests during the 2023-2024 reporting period, according to the OSHP.
The Patrol has a zero-tolerance policy that is part of the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" national enforcement campaign.
Motorists are encouraged to call #677 to report impaired drivers, drug activity,y or stranded motorists.
