Lynn Maro to be sworn in as Mahoning County prosecutor
A new era will begin on Monday, Dec. 30, in Mahoning County as Lynn Maro will be officially sworn in as the county prosecutor.
It was early in her campaign, when Maro laid out her vision for the Mahoning County prosecutor's office.
During an interview with 21 News in 2023, the Youngstown native said she planned to elevate the prosecutor's officer during her tenure.
"There's just a lot of things we can be doing better to work with law enforcement and to elevate the professionalism of that office," Maro said.
Before defeating incumbent Gina DeGenova in November, the longtime criminal defense attorney outlined several key initiatives for her tenure during an interview on 21 News at 5. This included collaboration with law enforcement to prosecute violent offenders.
"Day one we need greater coordination with law enforcement to make sure the cases are prepared and ready to get convictions when we get the charges filed through the grand jury. We need to be more aggressive with the violent felonies," Maro said.
She also promised to use resources on specialty courts for low-level and first time offenders needing mental health or substance abuse treatment.
The swearing-in ceremony will start at 9:30 a.m. in the Mahoning County Courthouse Rotunda on Dec. 30.
Judge John Durkin will administer the oath of office to Maro. The public is invited to attend.
