It was a bittersweet day in Niles as a long-time Wendy's employee collected her last paycheck after 25 years of service.

Staff and community members gathered to celebrate Sally Canann, 84, who is now retiring.

Sally Canann originally began working for the Wendy's in Niles in 1999 making salads.

Since starting, she has worked her way through numerous positions and into the hearts of her coworkers, managers and customers.

The store managers say that the next hire will have big shoes to fill.

"You hope and pray that the next replacement will be just as good but it's hard to replace special people like Sally," said District Manager Margot Berry when asked about having to find a replacement.

Canann is looking forward to spending more time with her family, but she stated that she didn't necessarily look forward to the day she retired.

"I love everybody that I work with... I always say this is my second home from away from home," said Sally Canann when speaking to 21 News reporter Meredith Lee.

Canann, although retiring, says that she will be back to Wendy's soon, just as a customer.
