Parole has been denied for a man who was convicted in 1999 of raping a four-year-old girl back in 1998.

According to the Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office, parole was denied for 48-year-old Sean Ashford, who is serving two consecutive 10-year to life sentences for two counts of rape along with a concurrent eight to 15-year sentence for a charge of attempted rape.

The charges stem from an incident back in 1998 when Ashford raped a four-year-old girl and attempted to rape an eight-year-old girl in Trumbull County. He was convicted of these crimes in February of 1999.

According to a press release, by Ashford's own admission, he also repeatedly committed similar rapes and sexual assaults in at least three other states.

According to the prosecutor's office, Ashford has been sanctioned several times for numerous prison rule violations including performing a sex act on another inmate.

Trumbull County Prosecutor Dennis Watkins was pleased with the Ohio Adult Parole Authority's decision not to release Ashford.

"In the interests of justice and to prevent undue risk to the public, this pedophile must remain incarcerated. Ashford's institutional record should weigh against granting parole. It is clear during his incarceration Ashford has failed to abide by basic prison rules and regulations, as well as committing additional criminal offenses," Watkins said.

Ashford's next chance for parole will be in December of 2029.
