Warren stabbing suspect's request to be transferred to non-secured facility denied
The Ohio Supreme Court has denied the request of a Warren stabbing suspect to be transferred to a non-secured facility.
According to court records. The Supreme Court denied the request of 31-year-old Patrick Heltzel, who was found not guilty by reason of insanity in the stabbing death of 71-year-old Milton Grumbling in Warren back in 2013.
Heltzel was committed to a mental health facility for his alleged crime.
Heltzel had asked to be transferred to a non-secured facility, but this request had been denied by the Appeals Court with the Ohio Supreme Court upholding that decision.
According to court documents, the appeals court came to this decision due to evidence that Heltzel had previously failed to take his medication for his treatment and had also used illegal drugs.
Furthermore, documents state psychologists noted that Heltzel has exhibited "a risk factor of violence" due to failure to comply with treatment.
A commitment hearing for Heltzel has been scheduled for January 22 in the Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.
