A release from the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, operated on tracks owned and maintained by the National Park Service in Cuyahoga Valley National Park, stated that there had been a minor train derailment at approximately 9 p.m. near Peninsula on December 21. 

Three cars derailed the tracks but remained upright. It is unclear if there was any damage to the cars at this time. 

There were no reported injuries of the 588 passengers and crew on board. 

The incident is currently under investigation by the Federal Railroad Administration according to a spokesperson for the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. 

This derailment occurred during the last excursion of the 'North Pole Adventure'. The train was headed to Peninsula which was dressed up like the North Pole. 

According to the spokesperson for the railroad, all of the passengers had been transported back to Rockside Station by about 1 a.m. December 22. 

"Safety remains the top priority for both organizations," according to the release.
