With weapons drawn, Warren Police converged on a business Wednesday evening to investigate an attempted armed robbery.

Officers recovered four 9mm shell casings and bullet fragments outside the Emerald Chalice in the Elm Village Plaza at 1809 Elm Rd. just before 8 p.m.

According to the police report, a caller told a dispatcher that an armed suspect attempted to break into the business and fired several rounds into the front door.

The suspect, described as a male wearing a blue fleece ski mask attempted to force his way into the business by firing two rounds into the front door.

The suspect then kicked in the glass door and demanded that the store employee open the safe.

The suspect was unable to gain access to the safe.

Witnesses reported seeing two male suspects flee the scene on bicycles.

Officers searched the area, including a building-by-building search of the surrounding businesses.

One suspect, who matched the description provided by witnesses, was briefly detained at the nearby Dollar General store but was later released after it was determined that he was not involved in the incident.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Warren Police Department.
