Vienna Trustees eye replacement levy to get out of fiscal emergency
Vienna Township Trustees plan a Monday meeting to vote on a plan to rescue the community from a million-dollar-plus fiscal emergency.
Township leaders will consider asking voters to replace three existing levies with a 3.5 mill fire department levy next year.
If the replacement levy is rejected by voters, Trustee Michael Haddle says they’ll need a “Plan B”.
"If it does not pass, we do not get out of fiscal emergency before 2028, possibly 2029, and we will not have EMS in the fire station until at least 2028,” said Haddle.
The plan also includes keeping traffic cameras up in the township until 2028.
In July the Ohio Auditor Keith Faber declared the township a fiscal emergency after funds were reported missing earlier in the year.
Trustees said the township's deficit balance is around $1 million and they have about $485,000 in unpaid bills.
Trustees will vote on sending the plan to the state fiscal commission for approval.
