Friends and family are in mourning after the death of a woman who drowned while trying to rescue a dog from icy waters in Ashtabula County.
According to a news release from the Sheriff’s Department, family members who hadn’t heard from 61-year-old Carol Beebe since Friday went to her Pierpoint Township home on Monday to check on her.
It was there that they found the woman’s body in a pond on the property.
Deputies reviewed surveillance videos and discovered that Beebe fell through the ice while trying to rescue her dog that had wandered onto the pond.
Beebe’s body was recovered by Ashtabula County Water Rescue.
The news release does not disclose what happened to the woman’s dog.
