Pennsylvania Department of Transportation getting funding for freight improvement projects
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced in a press release December 18 that the Shapiro Administration invested "$55 million in 30 rail infrastructure projects".
This means that PennDOT can get started on numerous freight projects, including one in Lawrence County relating to the New Castle Industrial Railroad.
With funding in the amount of $561,000 according to the release, the bridge timbers and rails on the main track may be replaced on the bridge over the Shenango River.
"Expanding and improving Pennsylvania's rail freight network will support family - sustaining jobs and connect Pennsylvania communities to the global economy while bolstering local economic development," said PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll.
This message from Carroll may be supported by the New Castle Industrial Railroad website.
According to the New Castle Industrial Railroad's website, it states," . . . the NCIR serves as an essential pipeline for New Castle Industry, helping to offer businesses the cost savings of rail, as well as reducing the number of trucks on local roads and highways."
