Sources: Juvenile shot on South Avenue stemmed from interaction near school
Police in Youngstown responded to a call of a shooting that occurred around 2:13 in the afternoon on the 2700 block of South Avenue on Tuesday.
One person was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound. A police report from YPD says the victim is in stable condition.
Our sources say the two involved were minors who attend Woodrow Wilson Alternative School.
According to our sources, the shooting stemmed from an interaction between the victim and the suspect that occurred at the school previously.
Police confirmed the information that 21 News had obtained and stated that they would be doing further investigation.
Police said charges could begin with felonious assault and then potentially attempted murder, but it all depends on what's found in the investigation.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the Youngstown City School District said they don't believe the suspect ever had a gun inside any school building, as he had passed through a metal detector earlier in the day.
