Valley men previously convicted of conspiracy to obtain explosives accused of breaking into New Jersey jewelry store
Two Youngstown men have been arrested in New Jersey after police say they broke into a jewelry store in the area.
According to a press release from the Northvale, New Jersey Police Department, the incident happened Tuesday, December 10 shortly after 11:30 p.m.
Police say several suspects were seen fleeing the store prompting a foot chase. Officers later determined the suspects were able to break into the store by manipulating an interior wall.
Officers found a bag containing multiple burglary tools and communication devices, as well as what appeared to be an electronic signal jamming device.
Police arrested 53-year-old Robert Courtney and 60-year-old Frank Susany of Youngstown. Both are charged with one count each of burglary and criminal mischief.
Courtney was also hit with additional charges of resisting arrest and possession of burglary tools.
This is not the duo's first run-in with the law though.
Back in 2013, investigators said both Courtney and Susany were involved in burglarizing jewelry and coin stores back home in the Valley and use the stolen good to buy explosives they planned to use to break into safes at other jewelry stores and coin shops.
In 2017, Susany was sentenced to 21 months in prison for his role in those crimes and Susany was sentenced to 10 months in prison for his role.
