Marines presented with $15,000 check for Toys for Tots program in Warren
U.S. Marines were presented with a $15,000 check from Covelli Enterprises for its Toys for Tots program at Panera Bread in Warren on Friday.
In addition to the check, Covelli Enterprises donated a $1,000 toy display at the event. This marks Covelli Enterprises' 40th year supporting the Toys for Tots program, which the company says is its favorite holiday campaign to support.
"We're actually making a difference and helping children who otherwise would not have a Christmas to be able to give them the ability to have gifts under their tree on Christmas morning," said Covelli Enterprises Director of Corporate Affairs Allen Ryan.
The U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) says the campaign is going strong, but with more applicants than ever before, the higher demand for toys creates a struggle, particularly in finding toys for babies and older children.
"When people think of Toys for Tots, they mainly think of four-year-olds and five-year-olds, which is mainly the majority, but we do have those teenagers and it can be difficult to shop for them," said Sgt. Ayala Valentine.
There is still time to donate toys to the cause. Anyone interested can bring their toys to the Toys for Tots warehouse in the Austintown Plaza on Mahoning Avenue in Austintown.
