Warren Family Mission's toy giveaway brings holiday joy to families
Early Thursday morning the Warren Family Mission hosted its annual toy giveaway. Hundreds of families walked away with bags of gifts for their kids and teenagers to open on Christmas morning.
The second floor of the mission was filled with brightly colored toys. Everything from clothing and shoes to the latest technology gadgets and jewelry were also piled high on the folding tables.
For some families, this is more than a toy giveaway, it's a lifeline during the holiday season. Father of four Jason Kirkby, said the weight of this year's challenges melt away because of this event.
"Times are tough and a lot of people are really trying to work hard just to get the bills paid. So, right now this right here will put a smile on a kids face," Kirkby told 21 News.
As a single mother of two daughters, Ashley said this annual event reminds her that she is not alone during the holiday season.
"It actually helps us out a lot. Especially with me being a single mom and doing things alone. It helps out a lot," Ashley said.
The annual event provides gifts for 400 families and organizers say this effort will benefit 1,000 youths this year.
