Hubbard man faces mandatory prison time for fatal drunk driving crash
A Hubbard man pleaded guilty Thursday to aggravated vehicular homicide and two counts of OVI stemming from a fatal car crash in May.
Dylan C. Vrancich, 26, of Bell Avenue, admitted to causing the single-car crash on Colonial Drive in Liberty Township that killed his passenger, 41-year-old Nicholas Thompson of Youngstown.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Vrancich was driving a 2009 Pontiac G6 at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle, struck a utility pole, and caught fire. Thompson died at the scene.
A blood-alcohol test revealed that Vrancich’s blood alcohol content was 0.21, significantly above the legal limit of 0.08.
Judge Ronald J. Rice of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court revoked Vrancich’s bond and ordered a pre-sentencing investigation.
Vrancich faces a mandatory prison sentence of two to 12 years and a potential lifetime driver’s license suspension.
