Light snow will taper to flurries Wednesday afternoon, but afternoon temperatures will be much different than the previous days this week.

Temperatures will continue to sink into the low 30s and even upper 20s by sunset with snow showers attempting to redevelop around midnight. Roads may become icy late Wednesday evening and early Thursday as colder temperatures cause untreated surfaces to freeze. A feisty snow squall may impact the night owls on the road past the midnight hour with a quick coating to an inch possible.

Winter makes a roaring comeback with single-digit to near-zero wind chills predawn Thursday morning thanks to a gusty wind straight from the Arctic. Make sure the kids are ready for the cold with winter coats, hats, and gloves at the bus stop.

Below-average temperatures around 30 degrees will be the rule through Friday afternoon despite a mostly sunny sky. However, this batch of Arctic air does not have much-staying power and will begin to retreat by the weekend with temps above historical averages.

Showers will renter the picture closer to daybreak Sunday and set us up for a soggy Sunday. Rain will remain steady for Sunday morning with rain tapering to showers Sunday afternoon.

Hold on tight. The temperature roller coaster ride isn’t over yet; temperatures will turn mild for a good part of next week.
