Recently approved $3 million rail yard in Youngstown ready to begin construction
21 News first reported the Ohio Rail Commission approved a new $3 million rail yard project in Youngstown in mid-November.
Now, the railyard's owner is officially announcing the planned creation of a 70-acre rail yard off Powers Way in the city.
The media release states, "Midwest & Bluegrass Rail, LLC and Lake to River are pleased to announce the establishment of the Lansingville Rail Park – a significant rail infrastructure investment in the Mahoning Valley."
MB Rail, a subsidiary Youngstown & Southeastern Railroad, acquired the property near its interchange points with Norfolk Southern Railway and CSX Transportation.
The location will allow for convenient access to Interstate 680 and
high-capacity utility services needed by the rail company.
The goal of the Lansingville Rail Park is to construct and operate a multi-track rail yard for major rail haulers using the tracks between Cleveland and Pittsburgh for storage of rail containers.
Last month the Ohio Rail Development Commission (ORDC) approved the grant for the site, which will, according to MB Rail, improve capacity, service, and logistical efficiency for the Y&S Railroad’s freight customers.
The remaining acreage within the property may be developed as an industrial site with access to major Class I rail networks and onsite, flexible rail switching provided by the Y&S Railroad.
Brendan Keener, Vice President of Commercial Development, Midwest & Bluegrass Rail said, “MB Rail is excited to make this investment with the support and encouragement of Lake to River. Lansingville Rail Park will be a cornerstone of Y&S Railroad’s growth strategy and commitment to fostering commerce and job creation in the Mahoning Valley for years to come.”
Work is expected to begin and be completed in 2025, according to MB Rail.
