Boardman police responded to a report of a man sleeping inside his running car just before 1 pm Monday outside of a hotel entrance on Tiffany South Blvd.

When officers arrived for a welfare check on the man, they discovered the driver sleeping with the vehicle in gear with the sleeping man's foot on the brake facing towards the roadway.

Out of an abundance of caution, officers placed one patrol car in front of the sleeping man's car and one behind it so that when officers attempted to awaken the sleeping driver, he wouldn't accidentally remove his foot from the brake and dart into traffic.

Officers knocked on the driver's window, and the 53-year-old man woke up and told officers he was waiting for his son to come down from his room and must have fallen asleep.

The report stated officers said that the man answered all their questions and did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Officers advised the man, if he was still tired, to pull the vehicle into a parking space and wait there instead.
