A Howland man was in court Wednesday after his arrest on charges of child porn for a second time in one year. 

37-year-old Jeffrey Barton was arrested Monday and charged with pandering sexually oriented material matter involving a minor, nonconsensual dissemination of private sexual images and telephone harassment.

Barton was in Warren Municipal Court Wednesday for a pretrial hearing from the previous arrest on December 14, 2023, on charges of pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor and four counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material, performance.

Judge Sean O'Brien set a bond for Barton after his second arrest on similar charges at $500,000.

On Monday, Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) and Howland Police served a search warrant on a home near the Howland High School on Monday and arrested a man for the second time in a year on child porn allegations.

Multiple Howland Police units and ICAC members served a warrant on a home in the 8000 block of Englewood Street NE in Howland Township. 

Barton was indicted in March as part of an investigation into sex crimes involving babies and toddlers.

Trumbull County Assistant Prosecutor Gaber Wildman told 21 News this search was related to and unrelated to Barton's arrest nearly one year ago and his indictment in March.

Barton has a scheduled court appearance scheduled for Wednesday on the original charges. 

Howland police took the following items from the home, including:

  • A handheld gaming system
  • Two flip phones
  • Two handheld electronic reading devices
  • One electronic tablet

In March, a Trumbull County Grand Jury handed up a twelve-count indictment against Barton as part of an investigation into sex crimes involving babies and toddlers.

The alleged offenses in the first arrest occurred between February and November of 2023.

The indictment details the content of the alleged material, including sexually explicit images of infants, as well as others for children as young as three years old and as old as 10 years old.

Wildman told 21 News the prosecutor's office was going to file a motion to revoke Barton's bond.

ICAC comprises law enforcement agencies, including sheriff, local enforcement, prosecutors, FBI, Homeland Security, and the US Attorney offices for Ohio's Northern and Southern Districts.
