Police in Warren are accusing a man of pointing a phone at drivers as if it was a gun in downtown rush hour traffic late Wednesday afternoon.

According to a report from Warren PD, officers responded to calls about a man in the roadway stopping drivers in 5 p.m. rush hour traffic in Downtown Warren and pointing what appeared to be a gun at them.

One woman told police the man stopped her in traffic and started pulling on her door handle to get in the car. Police say when the door wouldn't open, he tried to bust the window open.

Police say the man appeared to be delirious, had no shirt or shoes on and was foaming from the mouth. Police went on to say the man pointed a phone at them as if it was a handgun.

According to the report, officers tried to subdue the suspect, but this proved to be difficult due to his strength and flexibility. At one point, police say he struck an officer with his elbow and the two were rolling on the ground fighting.

During the fight, officers tried to tase the man to no avail.

It wasn't until additional officers arrived on scene and the man was given ketamine that police were able to subdue the man and detain him.

The report does not indicate that any charges have been filed at this time.
